OUR CHARITY WORK

Our team is actively involved in raising funds for several local and national charities. We have a balanced portfolio of charitable activities, including donations and fundraising via internal and external events.

We strive to ensure that charitable giving is part of the culture at JMW, and our employees have raised funds from activities such as skydiving, running, bike rides, climbing, abseiling and zip slides.

Our 2022 nominated charities are We Love MCR and Resurgo. Charities from previous years include Maggies, Macmillan, Beechwood Cancer Care, St Ann’s Hospice, Mind and many more.

The firm has completed many fundraisers such as charity raffles, cake bakes, static cycle, ice bucket challenge, quizzes, card making class, flower arranging class, breakfast sale, name the Easter bunny and sweepstakes to name a few.

We have completed a number of fundraisers in partnership with the Child Brain Injury Trust, Headway Central Lancashire, Bobath and Henshaws by holding charity ladies lunches, comedy lunches, golf days and fundraising dinners.

We have also support Wood Street Mission, a charity which helps disadvantaged children and their families in Manchester and Salford. We regularly donate much-needed supplies, such as clothing, school uniforms, books, toys, toiletries and Christmas gifts. We also support their Smart Start Back to School Quiz each year.

We work closely alongside Cancer Research UK in the preparation of Wills. Should you wish to make a donation in your Will to Cancer Research UK, please discuss this at your meeting with our Private Client team.

Volunteering in the Community

At JMW, we seek to support the community in which we operate and recognise the importance of volunteering. All of our employees are permitted to take two days paid leave per year to undertake charitable and voluntary work.

WOOD STREET MISSION

As well as the work we do with the charity mentioned above, employees have also volunteered to help sort through the donations they receive, including clothes, school uniforms, toys and food parcels.

Other activities we have taken part in include painting a scout campsite and helping to paint, deweed and dig the vegetable patch at Manchester Mind’s allotments in North and South Manchester and help the gardens in the Maggies centre in Manchester.

We also encourage Partners and employees to take up school governorships, trusteeships, non-executive directorships and voluntary roles within charities and community projects - some of our lawyers provide advice to charitable organisations on a pro-bono basis. We support local school, colleges and universities too by offering placements for students looking to gain work experience.
