Jonathan advises a wide range of clients including PLCs, high-street names, owner-managed businesses and start-ups on commercial agreements, data protection and business relationships. He is well known for offering a commercial and pragmatic approach to ensure commercial arrangements that clients put in place allow for full benefit to be delivered.
He has been a recommended lawyer in the legal directories and his clients span various industries including sport, food and drink, technology, media, retail and leisure, IT, manufacturing and travel. Jonathan also has particular expertise in advising the private and third sector on large outsourcing projects involving central and local government (previously completing a £800m project for a private sector operator partnering with the UK Government).
He has previously held the position of Head of Commercial at both Knights plc and BLM. He also held a two year term as Senior Legal Counsel (Commercial) at UK Government.
Jonathan was named Commercial Lawyer of the Year 2019 (UK) by the Lawyer (Monthly).
Recent highlights include:
- advising one of the UKs leading fast food restaurant chain on its UK supply agreement across all UK restaurants and other commercial arrangements/ data protection issues
- working with a world-wide manufacturer on its agreement to supply a product to a global nuclear fusion energy project in the US backed by the US Government
- advising a global consumer product company on commercial contracts and international trade
- working with Europe’s leading airline on a wide-spectrum of commercial agreements
- worked with two former footballers on the launch of an international business
- advised a high-street premium restaurant brand on various commercial and concession arrangements
- advised a well-known international fast-food brand on its entry to the UK market in 2022
- worked with an owner-managed utilities company on its £120m bid and subsequent contract with a water company
- worked with an owner managed business on its outsourcing of IT to South Africa and all the data protection issues that arose
Jonathan loves to travel and enjoys watching and playing most sports (including football which he played semi-professionally).
