Kiran joined JMW’s London office on 1 September 2020 in the Private Client and Court of Protection Department. Prior to joining JMW, she spent 8 years at boutique private client firm, New Quadrant Partners Ltd (Chancery Lane, London) and 8 years at Irwin Mitchell (Birmingham and Sheffield) where she trained and qualified.

Experience

Kiran has wide experience on all aspects of Private Client including:

  • Court of Protection, mental capacity and deputyship matters;
  • Setting up and administering personal injury trusts to hold compensation awards or insurance payments following accident or injury;
  • Setting up and registering Powers of Attorney;
  • Preparing declaration of trusts;
  • Estate planning, succession and will preparation;
  • Trust Advice including setting up, administration of trusts and the ending of trusts to include all tax aspects;
  • UK and international probate and estate administration and associated tax advice including deeds of variations; and
  • Advice to Executors, Trustees, Deputy’s and Attorneys in respect of their fiduciary duties.

In particular, many of her clients have lost mental capacity as a result of a degenerative brain conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia or have sustained serious brain injuries, usually as a result of a catastrophic accident or birth trauma. Whether the client has their own personal wealth or received substantial awards of compensation, Kiran has experience in managing funds carefully in order to meet their lifetime needs. This involves working as collaboratively and pragmatically as possible with clients, their families and support teams.

Kiran makes applications to the Court of Protection on matters ranging from the appointment of a deputy to complex one-off applications such as statutory wills and gift applications. She also assists with investigating suspected financial abuse of a vulnerable individual and bringing or defending proceedings in the Court of Protection including disputes between property and financial affairs attorneys, contested deputyship applications, and misappropriated funds by deputies and attorneys.

Background

Kiran graduated from the University of Sheffield with a law degree in 2004 and completed her LPC with a distinction at the College of Law, Birmingham in 2007.

She is a member of the Law Society’s Private Client Section and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) following completion of the STEP Estates and Trusts Diploma. She has also successfully completed the STEP Advanced Certificates in advising vulnerable adults and cross border estates both with distinctions.

She is vice chair of the Court of Protection Practitioners Association (London subgroup).

Kiran is listed in Chambers UK Guide 2020 as a “recognised practitioner” for Court of Protection: Property and Affairs. She was named by Eprivateclient as a “Top 35 under 35” in 2016 and by Citywealth as a “future leader top 100” in 2018 and 2019.
