Matthew joined JMW in July 2023 in the Property Litigation Team.
EXPERIENCE
Matthew is experienced in helping to resolve a wide range of property disputes, including rights of way, restrictive covenants, boundary disputes, right to light and landlord and tenant disputes. He is particularly known as a leading expert on:
- Basement extensions, including disputes relating to nuisance and interference to adjoining properties, claims arising from defective underpinning and foundations, and claims for consequential losses caused by basement extensions.
- Disputes arising from the Party Wall etc Act 1996, including applications for injunctions, statutory appeals, and claims for damage to adjoining buildings.
- Construction Nuisance, including claims arising from noise and vibration, dust, and interference with easements of support and other rights.
Matthew is qualified as a Solicitor-Advocate (Civil) and has appears in in the First-Tier Tribunal, the County Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
He is also qualified as an Accredited Mediator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Matthew also accepts appointments (including virtual appointments) as a third surveyor under the Party wall etc Act 1996.
BACKGROUND
Graduated from the University of Greenwich (Old Royal Naval College) with a B.Sc. in Computer Science (2004) and an M.Sc. in Enterprise Information Systems (2005). Completed a GDL and LPC at the College of Law and graduated with an LL.B. in 2010.
Matthew trained at what is now Taylor Rose and moved to a large regional practice upon qualification in 2010, becoming a partner there in 2016.
INTERESTS
Matthew is passionate about grass roots rugby union and can still be found playing in the front row for Old Emanuel RFC. Matthew is also a qualified RFU referee and is a member of the RFU’s independent disciplinary judiciary.
