Nicholas Young is a senior associate in JMW’s clinical negligence team. Nicholas joined the department in 2010 as a paralegal and was selected to join the solicitor team in 2013. Due to his proven skills and experience he was promoted to the position of associate in 2018, and again to senior associate in 2021.
Nicholas is responsible for running a busy and varied caseload and is currently helping numerous people living with spinal injury cauda equina syndrome (CES) to claim compensation following negligent treatment. He is also representing several children who have cerebral palsy due to maternity failures and is helping them to secure compensation to cover their lifelong care needs.
Other cases Nicholas has covered recently relate to the fields of urology, obstetrics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, kidney problems and pressure sores. Compensation settlements he has secured include:
- £550,000 for a patient who had suffered a failure to act upon symptoms of temporal arteritis
- More than £1 million for a child with Erb’s Palsy due to maternity errors
- £1 million for a man who had to have a leg amputated due to negligent treatment of an ulcer
- Nicholas has also settled numerous cauda equina syndrome claims including obtaining settlements of £400,000 and £550,000 for clients.
Before joining JMW, Nicholas trained as a barrister and worked as a county court advocate, assisting members of the public with small claims, infant settlement hearings and debt matters. He developed his interest in clinical negligence by volunteering at Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA). In his spare time Nicholas enjoys attending gigs, cooking and walking his dog, Bronson.
