Steven is a partner in the clinical negligence department at JMW. He has helped patients affected by many different types of medical negligence to challenge the mistakes that were made and secure compensation.
Ranked as a leading partner in the Legal 500 2025, in previous editions of the guide he has been described as “a superb example of a personable practitioner who readily commands the confidence of his disabled clients”. Steven was previously ranked as a Rising Star in earlier editions.
Steven’s caseload is now primarily made up of spinal injury and adult and child brain injury claims. In 2023 he secured approximately £17 million in compensation for a client with severe cerebral palsy due to maternity errors. He is currently working to settle numerous multi-million-pound cerebral palsy claims arising from poor care during birth or the newborn period.
Steven also has extensive expertise in spinal injury cases, and in 2023 he secured a settlement of £1.95 million for a woman whose life was devastated by cauda equina syndrome failures that left her with permanent bowel, bladder, and sexual dysfunction. Meanwhile in 2021 Steven secured more than £7 million for a man who was left wheelchair dependant after a hospital failed to adequately report the findings of scans showing he required urgent treatment.
Steven has specialised in the field of clinical negligence since qualifying as a solicitor in 2008. Hailing from Gateshead, Steven completed a Law Degree at Manchester University and the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the College of Law, Chester. He is a member of the training group for the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management.
