We have a new vacancy for a Solicitor to join the firm’s growing Military Claims team within our Personal Injury department, in our Manchester Spinningfields office.

The Team:

Our specialist team has many years of experience working with military personnel who are serving, veteran or reservist, to ensure that they get the compensation they deserve whether an injury is caused by service or in an off duty incident. It is a complex area of law, but our team has extensive experience in dealing with all types of military injury, including but not limited to:

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Military brain injuries
  • Military amputations
  • Hearing loss
  • Training accidents
  • Heat injuries
  • Aviation accidents

The role:

This role is a great opportunity to work alongside a leading military claims specialist, learning and developing legal knowledge and skills as you assist them with their busy caseload.

There is a strong business development element to the role which will involve both assisting the partner and also developing and growing your own network of contacts.

Your role will involve:

  • Dealing with Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) claims
  • Drafting of client and witness statements
  • Preparing instructions to medical experts and counsel
  • Tribunal documents
  • Attending Tribunals
  • Reviewing and collating medical records
  • Reviewing medical reports
  • Researching case law on liability and quantum
  • Drafting advices to clients
  • Liaising with clients and updating on case progress
  • Dealing with billing and disbursement payments
  • Vetting new military claims
  • Keeping up to date with developments in law and procedure
  • Ample opportunities for business development
  • Strengthening and growing the team’s charitable partnerships

About you:

To succeed in this role, you will be a Qualified Solicitor and able to demonstrate: 

  • Experience working with vulnerable clients and a tactful approach to guiding them through sensitive matters
  • Experience with military claims work, including Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) claims and/or Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) would be preferred, however training can be provided to the right candidate
  • Good working knowledge of relevant law and procedure
  • Legal analysis and research
  • Business development skills and experience will be looked upon favourably
  • An ability to build relationships with clients and drive charitable initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills and client care standards
  • Resilience when working with clients who are often dealing with incredibly complex and difficult personal circumstances and who can be very vulnerable.
  • An ability to work both as part of a team and independently
  • A strong academic background
