David joined JMW in March 2022 having previously worked with a national and then international law firm and is described as a leading partner by the legal 500.

He advises on all real estate matters, in particular those relating to property management, investment, development, acquisition and disposal as well as portfolio transactions. David's clients include several household names along with listed and private developers. Many of his clients have aggressive development programmes and are seeking niche sector expertise that will help them to achieve commercial objectives for growth.

David’s development experience includes listed and private developers on office, residential and commercial space including forward funding and sales and JV arrangements. His experience includes acting for: 

  • Henry Boot / Barnfield on a range of complex and high-value development schemes including Beacon 62, Huyton and Preston East. This includes various lettings, sales and forward funding arrangements
  • Bradford City Council on the OJEU selection process and subsequent appointment and negotiation of the development agreement for the One City Park Development in Bradford Town Centre
  • Reigate and Banstead Council (as the developer) on its forward funding transaction with Delph on a conditional forward funded deal of a mixed-use scheme with a golden brick completion.
  • Coplan Estates on its development agreement with Woking Council for the development of a PRS scheme in Woking town centre
  • Quorum Estates on its acquisition of a site for the development of a logistics scheme in Crewe. The Scheme was forward funded with a US investment firm
  • Kampus for the developer on the granting of leases to various leading independent operators such as Beeswing, Pollen and General Store

Within the hotel and leisure sector, David advises a range of hotel, brewery and restaurant companies, including franchised operators and owners and operators under hotel management agreements. His experience includes acting for:

  • Whitbread / Premier Inn for over 20 years in respect of its acquisition, development and asset management programmes. Lead a team delivering significant new bedroom numbers to the UK’s largest hotel operator
  • Greene King, one of the UK’s largest leisure and pub businesses. Carried out a range of trading and development acquisitions across a range of Greene King brands. Acted on the sale of 275 pubs for £76m to Hawthorn
  • The Restaurant Group plc on acquisitions across its various leisure brands (Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito, Coast to Coast) as well as pub acquisitions for Brunning & Price
  • Village Hotels and the former De Vere Hotel Group on a range of acquisitions including hotel management agreements on a range of hotels including the East Midlands Conference Centre
  • Wagamama on a range of acquisitions and asset management issues including the acquisition of its flagship restaurant in Soho
  • Odeon Cinemas on its new lease of its Manchester HQ in the First Street Development. Also acted on a range of asset management issues
  • Arc Inspirations on the roll out across the country of its various brands such as Manahatta, Banyan and the Box
  • A range of independent operators such as the Schofield’s Bar
  • a regional brewer on the drafting and grant of pub tenancy agreements across its estate.
