Gemma joined JMW in March 2024. She is a specialist UK in-bound immigration partner, sitting in the Employment Department.
Experience
Gemma has more than 10 years’ experience working on a wide range of matters relating to all types of UK immigration matters. She has particular expertise in relation to:
- Assisting HR teams with providing training and answering queries in relation to right to work checks
- The sponsorship of Skilled Workers, Ministers of Religion and Global Business Mobility route migrants, including assistance navigating the Sponsor Management System and the preparation and submission of each individual worker’s immigration application
- Undertaking mock audits to ensure organisations that hold a sponsor licence are complying with their sponsorship duties
- She frequently devises strategies and plans to immigration obstacles, and has helped 1 one of just 19 organisations to secure a Global Business Mobility route Service Supplier sponsor licence. This enabled the organisation to sponsor workers employed by an overseas provider to undertake a short assignment in the UK to provide services covered by a UK international trade agreement
- Gemma also has experience of assisting private individuals with their personal immigration matters, such as partners of British citizens and settled migrants, assisting with the preparation and submission of settlement/long residence applications, advising on EU matters both pre- and post-Brexit, assisting with complex British citizenship matters, and assisting entrepreneurs and investors with their immigration applications
Background
Gemma trained to become a solicitor alongside her previous employment at a niche immigration practice based in Manchester; she qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2015 and subsequently as a solicitor in 2017.
In late 2023 Gemma was recognised as a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500. She has also previously been shortlisted for 'Legal Professional of the Year' at the Manchester Young Talent Awards 2018, and 'Lawyer of the Year' at the Made in Manchester Awards 2019.
Interests
Gemma enjoys taking her dog on long walks, and loves music/attending gigs.
