Sam Haldane and Chloe Wynne, based in our London Professional Misconduct team, successfully defended two Metropolitan Police Officers following an IOPC investigation and prosecution for an offence of assault by beating relating to excessive use of force during an arrest.

The case was discontinued following the submission of representations that there was no realistic prospect of conviction and that a prosecution would not be in the public interest.

The team instructed an expert on the use of force in policing who assessed the evidence and determined that our client’s use of force had been reasonable in the circumstances and in accordance with policing guidelines. The team successfully argued that it was therefore not in the public interest to prosecute both officers for following their training.
